Are You There God? It's Me MargaretBook Title: Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret
Author: Judy Blume
My Rating: 5/5
Would I recommend this book? Yes, I think it’s a great book for pre-teen girls.
Suggested Age of Reader: 9+
Brief Summary (no spoilers): Margaret Simon has just moved to New Jersey, and is going into the sixth grade. There, she faces the struggles of growing up, and her conflict between choosing to be Jewish or Catholic, like her Mom or Dad.
What I liked/ didn’t like: I like the message of the book. I also loved how it painted puberty in a realistic but also funny way. I remember being like Margaret and wishing I could get my period, and then realizing how silly that was after the fact.
What the book teaches you: How growing up is really not too hard, and to choose whatever you think is right when faced with differing opinions from important people in your life.
Additional Notes: I think all books can be for any gender, but as a warning this one does focus on some of the struggles of biological women starting puberty.
