DLTK's Educational Activities
September Bulletin Board Project
"What a Grape Bunch of Kids!" Back to School Bulletin Board
Includes the Back to School play on words: "What a Grape Bunch of Kids!" - the layout shows the preK through Kindergarten options. The Directions and Links give alternatives for Grades 1 and 2 and for Sunday School. The main theme for this bulletin board is meeting each other/introducing the class.
Additional educational activities for PreK and Kindergarten: counting the grapes, the color purple, the shape of a circle and the letter G. Show the children how red + blue = purple. Read "Mabel Murple" (about a little girl who lives in a purple world). Additional Resources not shown on the layout: Pansy Purple color buddy, Letter G alphabuddies section, Circle shapes buddy, Fruits coloring pages and the Fruit Mini Book with Story Sequencing cards
Additional educational activities for Grades 1 and 2: Learn about the fruits and vegetables food group - healthy eating and nutrition. For Additional Resources, visit DLTK's Nutrition Activities.
Additional Sunday School theme: John 15:5: "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing."
Directions and Links:
PreK and up: Take a photo of each of the children with a digital camera or instant camera OR ask the parents to provide a photo of their children OR have the children draw a self portrait.
Cover the bulletin board with white, light green or mauve
Make the Groovy Grapes paper craft and tape it to the top, right section of the bulletin board.
Print the "What a Grape Bunch of Kids" title template (color or B&W) Tape to a piece of purple construction paper or card stock to create a border (or use another complimentary color). Tape this title to the top, right section of the board.
OPTIONAL: Use a large green marker to draw some twirly vines coming out of the stem/leaf area.
Have the children trace a dinner sized plate (you can use a paper plate) onto a purple piece of cardstock (or use white construction paper and let them paint it purple). Have them cut out the circle - may require adult assistance for younger age groups. OR use the purple circle template I've provided (color or B&W)
OPTIONAL: Have the children trace a snack sized plate onto the back of their photo. Cut out the circle.
Glue the photo into the center of the purple circle.
Arrange the purple circles on the bulletin board in the shape of a bunch of grapes.
Sunday School: Use the following template (John 15:5 from the King James translation) as the title instead of the "Back to School" one, or make your own John 15:5 page using the translation of the Bible taught by your church.
