Each
week we have a special "letter of the week".
During the week, we make crafts that feature the
letter of the week and practice the upper and lower cases of the letter.
WHAT WE DO - ACTIVITIES: During W week, do lots of water
activites -- go to the swimming pool or set one up in the back yard,
have water gun fights, let the kids help Wash the vegetables in
the Water.
Older children (and little ones) can learn a bit about the water
cycle. I find that engaging an older sibling or older classroom in
the same letter of the week as the little ones (using activities geared
to their age level) really helps keep the young ones interested (my
young one anyways). They love imitating big kids. Do the
Water Cycle activity pages from the KidZone site to reinforce
this lesson.
You can easily tie in the Water Cycle lesson with a Weather lesson
(another great W word!) Use our Lion
and Lamb weather tracker as part of your Weather lesson.
It was originally made for March, but the graph and basic ideas can be
used in other months as well.
WHAT WE DO - BODY: Wiggle! Let the kids try to
come up with how many things they can wiggle... toes, nose, fingers, hips,
legs, arms... if you have a talented relative get them to wiggle their ears
for the kids -- it will astound and amaze them (and they'll end up trying to
wiggle their own ears for weeks)
WHAT WE DO - FOOD: Watermelon is a wonderful food! Buy
some and let the kids eat it during Ww week (accompany with the Willie
Watermelon paper craft if you so desire). If you can't find
watermelon at the store, try drinking the watermelon KoolAid instead.
